Ciao a tutti!

My name is Julie Gargotta and I’m a host, journalist and voiceover talent in the Philadelphia market.  I’m zip liningmost definitely a woman on the go; I thrive on staying busy and putting my planner to good use.  I love organized chaos…I think that’s what draws me to the news and fosters my love affair with television.  From a very early age, watching the news was one of my favorite past times.  I remember sitting in silent fascination as Barbara Walters introduced intriguing, in-depth profiles.  I loved her articulation and the way in which she delivered the news.  I even thoroughly enjoyed the way she opened each program, vaguely lisping, “This is 20/20, tonight…”  The news provides viewers with many things: a snapshot of current events, undercover pieces, and personal portraits.  It’s methodical and meticulously planned, yet still leaves room for creative liberties.  With broadcast news, journalists bring stories to life with bold visuals and straightforward verbiage.  It’s fast-paced and exciting, with a Madridsplash of flash and a penchant for drama.  Each newsroom across the world is brimming with talented, type-A personalities, who thrive on those aforementioned facets.  Undoubtedly, I am one of those individuals and television subsequently stands as my favorite platform for communication.

I have parlayed my journalism studies at Temple University into a job hosting philly.com’s most successful show, “Down the Shore.”  Each week on the show we profile a different New Jersey beach, providing viewers a fun-filled webisode, packed with things to do.  In addition to hosting the show, I freelance with numerous companies and organizations throughout the Philadelphia area.  I also juggle two part-time jobs, am attempting to break into commercials and might even buy a dog (it’s that organized chaos).  And, since I truly believe in self-improvement, honing my writing skills, and expanding my general knowledge of the field, I began to work on my Masters of Journalism this fall.  I dream of one day working for CNN and hosting my very own travel show… lofty goals, but in my opinion, totally do-able.

I frequently travel and love to take pictures.  My latest travels took me to the equator in Quito, Ecuador… Quitothen east to the ever-beautiful island of Sicily, Italy (actually my birthplace).  In the future, I’d like to see Japan, India, Brazil, Norway, just to name a few… actually, I want to see and experience it all.   Here’s a link to the blog I created while studying as an Undergraduate student in Rome, Italy… Enjoy the trip and ci vediamo presto!  http://juls-nnroma.blogspot.com/
